It’s possible to find many images for your Community Website that can be used for free.
Images from pexels.com can be used for free. This is an easy and excellent source! Images from unsplash.com can also be used freely.
There is a special license called a “Creative Commons” license and when images are uploaded with this license, it’s okay to re-use them. The best way to find these images is to go to the following site:
http://search.creativecommons.org
…then simply enter a search word or term and select one of the image sites in the area below the search box (such as “Google” or “Flickr”). Normally this retrieves images matching your search term.
Note that sometimes the author may place minor restrictions on the possible ways in which these photos may be used and it may be necessary to include an attribution somewhere, mentioning the photographer’s name.
It is important to be careful about the licensing of images. If the image is clearly marked as “Creative Commons” or “public domain”, it is safe to use it on your site. There are now several other license types which allow use of the image on a non-commercial site. Otherwise, it may be illegal to use the image. There are also sites where images can be purchased for a small fee and this is sometimes a practical way to go.
Good sites that may have a fee: vecteezy.com, canstockphoto.com
Another source for free images (maps, for example) is: picryl.com and snappygoat.com and pngegg.com, pixabay.com, pixnio.com, unsplash.com, FreeRange Stock, PicJumbo, MorgueFile
